About
Rainos Hayes grew up at Sunset Point on the North Shore of O'ahu and competed on both the WQS and World Championship Tour before finding his calling as a coach. For over thirty years he has shaped some of competitive surfing's most accomplished athletes, from groms to world title contenders.
He led the Hawaii Surf Team from 1996 to 2018, guiding the program to podium finishes every year of competition and gold medals in 2005, 2012, and 2014. As Billabong Hawai'i Team Manager, he developed junior and professional talent across the North Shore and around the world.
In 2024, Rainos took on the role of head coach for Italo Ferreira, the 2019 World Champion and Olympic gold medalist. Under his guidance, Italo won the Tahiti Pro at Teahupo'o and finished the season as world runner-up. Heading into 2025, Rainos coaches multiple athletes on the Championship Tour.
